Sometimes, while in conversation with another person, the subject of faith comes up.  I struggle for the right words to say to express where I am in my faith journey.  After the fact, a full recitative pops into to my head, and I say, “Oh, why didn’t I think of that when I was talking earlier today?  I never have the right words in the spur of the moment.”

I realize that without planning and practicing, I will never be adequately prepared when I get into a faith discussion.

We all need to be prepared for those faith conversations—to be able to listen, hear, respond, and connect with others in a way that is supportive and may lead to further conversations.

The Evangelism Team has planned events to help with these faith conversations.

Breakfast Church

On November 24, 2019, we will have one worship service at 9:30 a.mCelebrated in the social hall; worship will include breakfast, word, sacrament, and discussion for the entire family.  Pastor Debbie Grohman, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Ontario and Administrative Coordinator of the Greater Rochester Community of Churches Faith in Action Network, will join Pastor Joanne in leading worship and the discussions.

Workshop

The discussions from Breakfast Church are preparatory for a workshop that will happen in January 2020, aligned with Epiphany—the season of “going out.”  The goal of the workshop is to gain comfort in speaking about faith, develop the words to express faith, and be better equipped to answer questions about faith.  Pastor Debbie will join us again to lead the workshop activities including Bible study, our Lutheran advantage, creating the “elevator speech,” and practicing scenario conversation in a safe and caring environment.

There will be multiple offerings of the workshop to ensure that there is a convenient time for everyone.  Child care will be provided if needed. A meal will be served at each event.  Choose one of the following options:

Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 12:30-3:00 p.m.

Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 6:30-9:00 p.m.

Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. – noon

There’s a reason why you’re part of Immanuel’s family.  The intent of these events is to help you share your story in authentic faith conversations.

The church is a gathering of those who are always being made new.  Mark your calendars and join us on this adventure.
